The album title, as you might know, means “through hardships to the stars”, and that is precisely Wareika’s motto. You could say, that the trio from Hamburg is the hardest working bunch in the music business. Only last year, they released two albums straight: “Formation” on the Danish boutique label Tartelet Records, and “Harmony Park” on worldwide respected Perlon Records. The enormous output by the trio is reminiscent of jazz musicians of the 60ties.

Wareika have released several singles and have done some astonishing remix work within the past three years. Therefore, their collection of ten remixes, or better, reworked and interpreted songs, will give you a fine impression of how Wareika have elaborated their unique sound over the past four years.

To involve Alex Flitsch of Connaisseur Recordings was self-evident for the band. They started out on his label, made several remixes for it, and contributed tracks to the Grand Cru compilation. This also made it a matter of course to feature the exclusive remix of Connaisseur-act Kollektiv Turmstrasse’s “Tristesse” on this album. In order to give it even more of a proper album feel, Wareika have delivered an intro and outro, making this collection sound more balanced and harmonious.

Please enjoy this almost 80 minute long journey to the stars with Wareika.

Distortion – Battle Your Head EP

[cns045] Distortion – Battle Your Head EP by Connaisseur Recordings

Distortion aka James Myatt is what you can call an old-school-head. Living close to the windy city of Chicago, his music breaths the House-vibes of his hometown and the Techno-soul of Detroit. James works as a truck driver during the summer and runs a snowplow company in the wintertime. This means he is on the road a lot, where he catches pure American atmosphere and spirit day-by-day, what can definitely be heared in his music.

With the “Battle Your Head EP” James delivers his first full EP to Connaisseur after his successful remix for Estroe’s classic “Driven” for our 5th anniversary compilation CINQ earlier this year.

He delivers 4 classy cuts between alluring and rough vibes, with which he proves his outstanding feeling for an authentic Chicago and Detroit sound.

Kollektiv Turmstrasse – Rebellion der Träumer – The Remixes Part 1

Kollektiv Turmstrasse – Rebellion der Träumer – Remixes Part 1 by Connaisseur Recordings

Not many words are necessary for Kollektiv Turmstrasse’s last year’s album “Rebellion der Träumer”. Top ranking at the European sales charts, No 1 iTunes album charts and top ten of best album in 2010 in many polls of the year. The album is more than a collection of single tracks – its one oeuvre and became an instant classic. Now we are
more than proud of to kick-off the remixes.

The a-side of part 1 features an interpretation of “Was Bleibt” by UK House gentleman Jimpster, who delivers a poppish and emotional deep-house bomb with a strong and driving bassline.

On the flipside “Heimat” is given a wonderful subbass-driven remix treatment by Thuringia’s best Robag Wruhme, who proofs again his outstanding creativity and unique feeling for music.

Expect more remix parts after the summer…

Alex Jones – The Goldsmiths Row EP

Alex Jones – Goldsmiths Row EP by Connaisseur Recordings

British house producer Alex Jones is giving you the creeps, with a smile on his face. His latest release features three trippy tracks of dark and edgy dancefloor charm. “Have It Your Way”, (produced together with London artist Shenoda) and “5 Minute Warning” are both featuring the haunting vocals by Allan Winfield. Chilling synths collide with hypnotic basslines and a driving rhythm programming that is full of twists and turns. Entitled „The Goldsmiths Row EP“ Alex Jones first record on Connaisseur Recordings, bears more than one reference to his hometown of London.

At 94 Goldsmith Row a traditional English pub called The Albion can be found. Being a popular hangout among locals during the week, the neat little pub turns into a base for supporters of West Bromwich Albion FC at every Premier League matchday. Every now and then the pub is the place to be for Londons underground house scene. „A Quiet Afternoon At The Albion“ is a very intimate Sunday daytime event featuring Alex Jones and friends on turntables.

The “Goldsmiths Row EP” is on every hipster’s tongue between Toronto, London and Berlin. Already supported by the likes of Art Department, Raresh, Simon Baker, Jimpster, Mathias Kaden, Afrilounge etc., “Have It Your Way” definitely has the potential for an after party guarantor for the summer of 2011.

Again we feature with this release a new part of our limited paper-cuts cover artwork series by the deceased rural teacher Erich Proksch.

Of Norway – Karpathian Thirst / The Bleeding

Of Norway – Karpathian Thirst / The Bleeding by Connaisseur Recordings

“Kan ni spela lite mindre mystisk?” (Can you please play less mysterious?) was a request by a Swedish girl during an Of Norway gig in Oslo. Most probably the answer to that polite question would have been a determined “No”. For it is precisely the inherent magic in the tracks of Vegard Wolf Dyvik aka Lil’Wolf and Chris Lynch that propels the duo’s musical work into a sphere of its own.

Their latest 12” release “Karpathian Thirst” is a convincing proof of the fact. The title alone evokes the mystical Of Norway aura. The track itself is an epic builder. Time is no longer of any importance, when listening to “Karpathian Thirst”. The beats elegantly sneak around you, setting a trap that’s impossible to escape, while the melody cautiously draws from early nineties rave enthusiasm.
“The Bleeding” shows the more laid back side of Of Norway. After three minutes the track almost grudgingly develops into a groove, that is pure elegance with chirping 303-sounds as an irresistible add-on.
The music of Of Norway is being released on labels like Connaisseur Darkroom Dubs, Dialect, and Afro Art. Of Norway already graced dj-sets from the likes of Hot Chip, Anja Schneider, X-Press 2, Timo Maas, Nick Warren, Slam, Gabriel Ananda, Ewan Pearson, Charles Webster, Phil Kieran, Laurent Garnier, Stacey Pullen and John Digweed.

Furthermore we proudly present the part 2/10 of our limited paper-cuts cover artwork series by the deceased rural teacher Erich Proksch. Again a breathtaking work, highly detailed and with a strong mysterious aura. As tailor-made for our Oslo-based act Of Norway.

Pelé & Nico Stojan – Cosa Mia EP

Cosa Mia EP by Connaisseur Recordings

Starting with his first release in 2005, Bavarian Patrick Gallenmüller has successfully been launching his career as a producer and dj under the alias of Pelé. The big boost for the aspiring newcomer came in 2007 when he hit the dancefloors twice within a short period of time. First out was „Childhood’s End“, his kick off release on Connaisseur Recordings. It was followed shortly after by another 12“ on Connaisseur: „Thumbs“, a collaboration with Berlin producer Dave Shokh. In the years to follow he scored two more massive clubhits („Viva Belize“ and the „El Condor“), that brought him to the attention of big players in the business like Sven Väth, Laurent Garnier and John Digweed.
Early 2011 witnesses him returning to Connaisseur Recordings for another 12“ release. This time at his side is Nico Stojan, who has recently made himself a name as being part of the infamous Bar 25-crew.
„Nothing Can Stop This Fire“ continues where „Belize“ has stopped. Detailed arrangements and a smooth groove showcase Peles maturity as a producer. In Nico Stojan he finds a partner, who shares his ideas about house music and adds a distinctive flavour the them. The second track, „Cosa Mia“, shifts things to the deeper side of house with Stojans vocals being consciously chary. „Alchemy“ is the first of two instrumental tracks featured on „Cosa Mia EP“. Based on a melodic loop it draws the listener ever deeper into the track, like some sort of irresistible magic. „Dextron“ with its rich and at the same time balanced rhythm programming may be considered the insider’s tip of the EP.

Furthermore, with this release we start our new artwork series with papercuts by the deceased rural teacher Erich Proksch who passed away in 2003. This completely unknown artist bequeathed around 120 papercuts to his family, of which we will now feature some. We are more than happy for having the opportunity to present this outstanding art pieces on our releases. The papercuts describes multi-layered scenarios, sometimes morbid, sometimes frivolous but also sort of funny. More info about Erich Proksch on our new webpage after its relaunch.
