About
Connaisseur Recordings is popping the corks. With good reason. The Offenbach based label is turning five. To celebrate its birthday, Connaisseur Recordings releases “Cinq“, a compilation full of exclusive and tastefully selected remixes, showcasing the label’s unique and versatile approach to electronic music.
“Cinq“ features reworks of the most representative and most successful tracks in the label’s history. Remix treatment comes from Connaisseur’s distinctive roster of artists. This very special remix-package is due in February 2011 and will be released on vinyl, CD and digital.
Prior to that, Kollektiv Turmstrasse will be issuing their highly anticipated album “Rebellion der Träumer“ in November 2010. It is the second artist album on Connaisseur after Estroe’s “Elemental Assets“ in 2009. The ten new Kollektiv Turmstrasse tracks (plus nine interludes) explore a territory so far untouched by previous releases of the duo. It doesn’t come as a surprise that Christian Hilscher and Nico Plagemann chose Connaisseur as their favorite platform for the album release. It is here that they find the endorsement and freedom necessary to successfully pursue their career. On top of that, Connaisseur Recordings provides an efficient network to promote “Rebellion der Träumer“ on a global scale.
With more than 40 Releases on Connaisseur alone and an additional 25 records out on both sublabels Connaisseur Supérieur and Outils Du Connaisseur, the label family has by now already become a major player on the international scene. Tracks like “Driven“ by Dutch producer Estroe, “Lux Dementia“ by Afrilounge, Kollektiv Turmstrasse’s “Tristesse“, and “Long Way To Go“, a collaboration between label-head Alex Flitsch and British duo Audiofly, are responsible for unforgettable moments on dancefloors worldwide.
Label parties in some of the world’s leading venues like Bar 25 and Watergate (Berlin), Unit (Tokyo), Studio Martin (Bucharest), Loft (Lausanne), Flexbar (Amsterdam), Rote Sonne (Munich), Robert Johnson (Offenbach), Cocoon (Frankfurt), Rioma (Mexico City) and Distillery (Leipzig) bear further witness to the fact, that Connaisseur is on a truly global mission.
With the launch of its own booking agency early in 2011, a relaunch of the label’s website and an update of the familiar Connaisseur corporate design, including the well known logo, the next steps are already in the works. Earlier this year, Alex Flitsch, Hilary Flitsch and Martin Henkel strengthened the Connaisseur team by adding a new member to it. Ralph Boege now takes care of all legal affairs, as well as publishing and licensing matters.
An integral part of the transition process that goes along with the five year anniversary, is the newly found splendor of Connaisseur Supérieur. The label now serves as an outlet for re-issues and special releases. The idea is, to make tracks available to a wider audience, that are either classic but forgotten or never found their way to the pressing plant. Iceland’s iconic producer Thorhallur Skulason alias Thor and his release „Icelandic Lost Tracks“ represent the direction Connaisseur Supérieur is heading.
Being true taste makers, it is a pleasure for the Connaisseur team to share the fruit of its labour on a regular basis. That’s why the annual compilation series „Grand Cru“ came into existence, always delivering a fine selection of the label’s most recent productions. On the 2010 edition, hidden gems by promising new artists like Of Norway and Himan, unfold their beauty alongside tracks of well established Connaisseur artists like Federleicht, Martin Beume and Chymera.
Tracing back the roots of Connaisseur’s success story leads to the southern german town of Pforzheim. Primarly known for its exquisite jewelry and watch-making industry, the so called City of Gold, was also home to a small scene of likewise passionate and ambitious djs and producers, like Afrilounge, Patrick Chardronnet and label owner Alex Flitsch. When Alex Flitsch, his future wife Hilary and Martin Henkel founded Connaisseur Recordings in 2005, these artists eventually become known to a wider audience.
It was Chardronnet who kicked off the Connaissseur history with his fantastic “Eve By Day”. The melodic techhouse-track received overwhelming international feedback from djs like Laurent Garnier and firmly established Connaisseur Recordings on the map. What was to follow, were five successful years of Connaisseur Recordings, relying on traditional virtues of swabian entrepreneurship like diligence and a strong focus on quality, mixed with an uncompromising passion for electronic music.
